We want to share an update on the progress made during today’s bargaining session. While no overall agreement has been reached, we continue to make steady movement on several key proposals that impact your daily work and compensation.
Working Conditions
CTA presented a counterproposal in response to the District’s proposed language on Artificial Intelligence. The proposal maintains core protections for educators by clearly addressing teacher liability when students are using District-approved AI tools.
Duty Day
Several important issues were discussed regarding the duty day:
- Non-Classroom Planning Time: The union presented a counterproposal around planning time for non-classroom educators.
- Additional Caseload When Substituting: The District is still reviewing the proposal.
- Class Distribution: The District rejected CTA’s proposal for the distribution of students across classrooms.
- 30-Minute Duty-Free Lunch: CTA submitted a revised proposal to make the 30-minute lunch period language consistent and clarified the intent for elementary schools on extended Wednesdays.
Association Rights
Tentative Agreement #4 on Association Rights was signed.
Salary
The union agreed to the District’s proposed compression adjustment and the percentage increases of:
- 4.01% for Highly Effective
- 3.01% for Effective
CTA also presented a counterproposal that includes:
- A 1% additional across-the-board salary increase for all instructional personnel
- A Retention Fairness Adjustment, aimed at addressing concerns about pay inequities for veteran educators negatively impacted by removing the retention supplement and using the money for base pay instead.
- Clarify the language for the 7th-period supplement
